Barclay Goodrow Carolina Hurricane Update
Tue Aug 9, 2011

Daniel Catenacci of Newmarket (drafted 77th by the Buffalo Sabres) , Ryan Murphy (drafted 12th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes) and Barclay Goodrow (Carolina Hurricane’s development and rookie camp) are all very good friends and were all minor hockey team mates. They have all agreed to be featured and provide monthly updates as their careers progress on Aurora Clicks.

Barclay Goodrow grew up in Aurora and started his minor hockey career here. He graduated from Aurora High School this year. In 2009 he was drafted 17th overall in the OHL entry draft by the Brampton Battalion He was ranked 116th among North American skaters going into this year’s NHL draft but to the surprise of many went undrafted.

That disappointment was quickly mitigated as the Carolina Hurricanes invited Barclay to their development camp in South Carolina on July 7th. Other teams also expressed some interest through his agent Ian Pulver. Barclay felt it was “a great experience and it demonstrated how hard you have to work and compete at that level”

Barclay must have been impressive at the conditioning camp because he has been invited to the rookie camp at Traverse City Michigan starting on September 9th where the Hurricanes will ply four games in 5 days against other NHL Rookie teams. If he is successful there he would be invited to the main camp. Also on the Carolina team is fellow Aurora resident and one of his best friends Ryan Murphy Carolina’s first round draft pick.

Barclay has been working out trying to get in the best shape possible with Advantage for Athletes run by the Renzetti Brothers who has worked with for the last three years. He is also on the ice training every day with former NHL player Rob DiMaio and a group of 7-8 other players. He has maintained his weight bit replaced body fat with lean muscle and is looking forward to this season.

He is scheduled to report to the Brampton Battalion training camp on August 31 and will play with them until it is time to go to Travers City.

Barclay will continue to enjoy his down time away from the rink with his friends.
